SEDEX 86LT: the LT-ELSD detector succeeding the SEDEX 85LT

5 November 2026

The SEDEX 86LT is the natural evolution of a best-seller: the SEDEX 85LT, launched in 2004 and trusted by chromatography laboratories around the world. This low-temperature evaporative light scattering detector (LT-ELSD) keeps everything users rely on, while bringing the sensitivity, automation and compact design that today’s HPLC, UHPLC and SFC workflows demand.

Continuity with your validated SEDEX 85LT methods

Built on the SEDEX 85LT, the SEDEX 86LT keeps the same robustness and the same operating parameters, including identical method temperatures. Methods already validated on the SEDEX 85LT can be transferred without redevelopment, which makes it the ideal replacement for established and regulated workflows: no disruption, no complexity and no surprises.

More compact, with SAGA and cleaner signals

The SEDEX 86LT also goes further. Its more compact footprint makes it easy to integrate where bench space is limited, and its advanced features deliver cleaner, clearer and more actionable data:

  • SAGA (SEDEX Automated Gain Adjustment): real-time automatic gain control that prevents off-scale peaks and extends the usable dynamic range.
  • Improved signal filtering and a new photodetector: baseline noise of about 0.05 mV, compared with about 1 mV on the SEDEX 85LT.
  • New-generation nebulizers and evaporation unit for stability, reproducibility and sensitivity.
  • Full remote control (gas, light source, photodiode, temperature) and automatic end-of-run shutdown to save gas.

Which laboratories is the SEDEX 86LT for?

  • QC laboratories replacing a SEDEX 85LT or a legacy ELSD
  • Routine HPLC and UHPLC analyses requiring higher sensitivity
  • SFC methods needing low-noise aerosol detection
  • Universal detection of non-chromophoric compounds such as sugars, lipids, PEGs or surfactants

Planning the move from the SEDEX 85LT

Production of the SEDEX 85LT is planned to end in December 2026, and SEDERE will continue to support it until the end of 2034 (see the end-of-support table). For teams who want continuity while modernizing their instrumentation, the SEDEX 86LT delivers meaningful improvements that make a real difference in the lab every day.
